Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven Canary Islands and located just 87 miles from the African coast. It owes its existence to the volcanic activity that shaped this archipelago a long time ago. You can find this impressive history everywhere on the island in form of lava rocks and black sandy beaches, if you explore Lanzarote. The unique landscape has a strange beauty with its bizarre rock formations and there are still some places on the island with volcanic activity. The Timanfaya National Park invites its visitors to have a look at the numerous small, bubbling crater of Montanas del Fuego, the fire mountains. It’s certainly a great experience, for both adults and kids.

And as your Holidayguru knows that you like to escape the winter, I have found you a family holiday on thomascook.com that takes you not only to Lanzarote, but also to the most popular resort in the island: Puerto del Carmen. The resort lies in the southeast of the island and is one of the biggest tourist centres. This place is good if you like to have many sporting activities like surfing and diving and if you like to have many bars and restaurants close by.

You will stay in the 3 star Plaza Palmeras (70% on TripAdvisor) close to the beach and to the nightlife. The hotel offers a decent value for the price and you will have many entertainment possibilities. There are two outdoor pools: one for adults and the other one is only for children. The complex has a lively atmosphere and with the beach and the nightlife only 400 metres from your hotel you will be able to enjoy a great time. Please just note that the hotel is located on a steep hill and it’s not recommended for those with mobility difficulties.
