Oslo is a first class city destination, holding on to it’s Viking heritage while at the same time proving itself to be a modern city up there with the very best. Climb the spectacular Opera House, which offers great views (especially at night) or go up to the Akershus Festning, the city’s impressive fortress that overlooks the bay. For fans of Viking history a trip out to the museum peninsula is a must –  an easy bus journey from the city centre, it is home to the open air Volksmuseum with it’s ancient stave church and well as the museum of Viking Longships. There’s also the Maritime Museum and adjacent Kon Tiki Museum, which are must-sees for fans of nautical adventure. It’s well worth getting a tram and bus pass to make the most of the city, as it’s very accessible by public transport. Also well worth seeing is the Royal Palace and the amazing Monolith sculpture park, a little way out of the city on top of a hill and giving amazing views over the city. Try and time your visit to make the most of the spectacular sunset. Apart from this, all manner of tours are available – try exploring Oslo Fjord by boat or, if you’re wanting to head further afield you could try the Norway In A Nutshell tour, which combines fjords, mountains and some spectacular train journeys. With all this on offer, an Oslo city break is clearly the way to go for your next trip away!
