With this horrifyingly good package from Travelbird you will be spending 4 nights in hotels across Romania, and have your breakfast, in-country transfers, castle visits and flights included, all for just £329 per person!

Flights are from London Stansted to Bucharest, and including all transfers in Romania your travel is sorted.

Itinerary

Day 1: You will arrive in Bucharest where your private airport transfer will pick you up and take you to your hotel in the Lipscani district, where you can enjoy your complimentary welcome drinks – the perfect start to your Transylvania castle tour. You’ll have the rest of the day to explore gorgeous Bucharest, which is a fascinating combination of Byzantine churches, opulent palaces and minimalist futuristic buildings. You should definitely visit the impressive Parliament Palace and the ruins of the Old Court of Bucharest – where the infamous Vlad the Impaler lived whilst in Bucharest. (Take note of that name, you’re going to be seeing a lot more of him!) Make sure you explore the area around your hotel, which has become the vibrant heart of the city with bohemian bars, chic cafes, live music venues, beautiful architecture and some fab restaurants.

Day 2: On the second day your Transylvania castle tour begins in earnest – you will make your way into the wild region of Transylvania and stop at the Snagov Monastery where Vlad the Impaler was assassinated. You’ll be able to see Dracula’s tomb and learn about the many secrets and theories surrounding his death. Afterwards you will visit the famous Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle, a mysterious fortress where Vlad the Impaler was thought to have stayed and a must on any Transylvania castle tour. You will then head to the medieval town of Brasov; Surrounded by the Carpanthian Mountains, this town boasts both breath-taking mountain scenery and stunning architecture. With delicious restaurants, excellent transport and a variety of cultural activities, Brasov is one of the most visited towns in Romania.

Day 3: After breakfast you will go visit the historic Rasnov Fortress ruins near Brasov. This fortress was built by the Teutonic Knights in Transylvania and was once owned by Dracula’s grandfather, Mircea the Old. After visiting the enigmatic ruins of this medieval citadel you will head to transfer to Sighisoara, the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. Sighisara boasts a well-preserved medieval old centre which has also been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you can climb the old Clock Tower and walk up the Covered Staircase to the ancient Church on the Hill and wander through the cemetery. You can also go and see the Casa Vlad Dracul, the place where Dracula was allegedly born.

Day 4: After another hearty breakfast you will continue your Transylvania castle tour and drive along the Transfagarasan, also known as Ceaușescu’s Folly as it was built as a strategic military road with extreme twists and turns that take you high up into the mountains. The transfer will take you up to the scenic Balea Lake for lunch before travelling to Poienari Castle, known as the Real Dracula’s Castle. After climbing the 1,480 steps that lead to the castle, you will reach the ruins of this legendary landmark. Spend the afternoon exploring the ruins of the castle before heading back through the Transylvanian countryside to Bucharest for your final night.

Day 5: Your private transfer will take you to the airport where you will catch your plane back to London Stansted.
