When we think of places to visit in Morocco it tends to be Marrakech that first comes in mind. But the historic city of Fes should definitely be high up on your list. This is a place steeped in history and it’s a fascinating place to simply explore and learn about different cultures!

Fes City Break

I’ve spotted a brilliant holiday package over at Expedia for a 3-night adventure in Fes this October. With return flights and your accommodation included, all the important stuff is taken care of for you already! You’ll be staying at the superb 4* Dar d’Or Fes, a hotel that’s received flawless reviews. You’ll love the traditional ornamentation in all of the architecture – it’s the little details that really make it!

In Arabic-speaking cultures, it’s the so-called medina that’s the oldest part of the city. In Fes, the medina actually dates all the way back to the 9th century and it shelters the world’s oldest university, the University of Al-Quaraouiyine. When you walk the streets of Fes, you’re taking a small journey through time!

Fes also boasts some fantastic museums such as the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden arts, the Der Batha, and the At-Attarine Madrasa. You’ll really get a sense for the art and design and the intricately designed architecture never fails to take my breath away really. Temperatures will still be way up in the 27 degrees mark even in October, but if the afternoon heat gets too much for you, you can always retreat to a shady courtyard and enjoy some traditional tea.
