One of the most popular city breaks, a Porto city break is ideal for those of you who want to get away to the sun for a few days but may not have the time to take a week long holiday. It is one of Europe’s leading cities with a mix of some fantastic architecture and beautiful views.

Flights are from London Stansted to Porto, and although transfers aren’t included it’s very easy to get to your hotel – check your options here. The metro is probably your best bet – you’ll be at your hotel within half an hour and it’ll only cost you £1.

Alvares Cabral Guest House is located near Porto’s centre, a 5-minute walk from Trindade Metro Station (with connection to airport). The guest-house is ideally located for your Porto city break within easy walking distance of all of the sights and Porto’s pretty river front, but far enough away from the action that you know you’re going to have a good night’s sleep. The decor of the place is classic Portuguese, and you hosts speak good English and are mines of information about the city, always ready to offer their own top tips and local insights. Despite being in the city the hotel has a great back garden, perfect for lazing on a sunny afternoon with a book before heading out into the city again to hunt down some tasty Portuguese food for dinner. This hotel scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor.

Located near Porto City Hall, Sandeman Cellars, Porto Cathedral, Casa da Musica and Museum of Port Wine, you will discover loads to do only a short way away. The hotel staff are multilingual and are happy to offer any assistance with tour information and the best places to visit. Make sure to try some of the city’s namesake, port, while you’re there – I’d recommend the pink port, which is fruity and delicious and seemingly only to be found in Portugal. The speciality here is a risotto flavoured with blood, but if you’re not adventurous enough to try that Portuguese food is delicious and varied, so you’ll certainly find something you love on your Porto city break!

This Porto city break is a perfect way to escape the British autumn weather and explore a really beautiful city at the same time – and with a price like this, you don’t even need to hesitate!
