What counts as a Last Minute Deal?

In my Last Minute Ticker, I’ll only be presenting deals that begin within the next 7 days. The exact travel period of each holiday will be shown in its overview. The definition of what a last minute deal actually is varies depending on the travel provider. Some travel providers even consider deals to be last minute even if it’s starting the month afterwards.

What is last minute?

A last-minute deal is what people normally refer to a package holiday that is still bookable almost right up until its start date. It’s normally due to flights and hotels that haven’t quite sold out, but are looking to sell those last places by lowering the price.

What is super last minute?

Super last minute refers to holidays that start almost immediately after the booking. You have to be very spontaneous to book these, but they often work out to be incredibly cheap. Those who are flexible enough to wait for a super last minute deal will travel the cheapest! Most super last minute deals often come with extra services such as all-inclusive catering or an upgraded room category, as the travel provider will be trying to sell the holiday up until the last possible moment.

How does last minute work?

Booking a last minute deal is exactly the same as booking any other package holiday with a travel provider or operator. The only difference in booking a last minute deal is that they’ll be booked at short notice. Everything else is identical! It can sometimes be that due to the short time between the booking and the departure date, the holiday can only be paid for by credit card or an immediate transfer of funds. You should take a closer look at the terms and conditions of each travel provider before booking.

When should you book a last minute deal?

Last minute deals are more effective in the low season. Most holidaymakers travel during high seasons and the holiday period. The reasons for this differ. Families are dependent on their children’s school holidays, and the same applies to teaching staff who can only take their holiday when the term is over. Travel providers like to take advantage of these holiday periods by raising the prices. The high season in summer is highly sought after due to the good weather conditions, which makes it more expensive. It is possible to get last minute deals during this time that offer good value for money, but you’ll have to be very flexible and not too fussy either.

Things are different for last minute deals during the low season. Since most holidaymakers will be travelling during the high season, there’ll be a lot more options open up to you. If you book at short notice, then you’ll have a pretty big chance that you’ll get what you want but still manage to travel cheaply. Good times to travel are June, September, October and the rainy season. In southern countries, summer temperatures normally continue well into October. That’s why you should utilise your summer months in Ireland as much as you can and simply escape the colder weather as soon as it starts creeping in. There’s no better way to do it!

Where can I book the best last minute deals?

I’ll be presenting the best last minute deals in my Live Ticker. There you’ll find all the travel providers and operators directly linked, which means that you can go and grab your last minute offers in no time. Just take a look!

What’s cheaper – booking in advance or booking last minute?

Booking well in advance and at the last minute are both cheaper than regular travel. The reason for this is that the travel providers want their offers to be completely sold out. Early bookings are cheap because almost all rooms etc. are still free, and last minute travel is cheap because airlines and hotels are trying to sell those last available spaces. That is why you’ll be able to buy them for a discounted price shortly before the departure date.

It depends on when you’re travelling as well. For high season, public holidays and the holiday season you’ll have to book well in advance – tickets will be cheaper due to travel providers wanting to sell them for a lower price. But the closer high season is, the most expensive travelling will become. During the high season, there are also sometimes allocations for leftover slots, i.e. last minute deals, which definitely offer good value for money, but you can’t always rely on them. Whether or not your desired destination is available at the last minute is pretty much down to luck. That’s why it’s worth taking a look at my Live Ticker!
