New York Week

New York – The Birth Place of the American Dream

New York, the real life Gotham city and the world’s most iconic metropolis, truly is an incredible place. It’s not for nothing that there are so many songs about the Big Apple – as the inimitable Frank Sinatra probably best described it: “New York, New York – it’s a hell of town” …and I totally agree with him. As soon as you arrive in the city you’ll find yourself in a maze of streets buzzing with cars and people, and of course interesting highlights. With so many taxis honking their horns and subway cars rattling along, the hubbub of the city can sometimes seem overwhelming – but who needs silence when you can have the world’s coolest, craziest most happening city!?

Everyone has their own preconceptions of New York, and any child growing up in our modern and connected age probably already feels like they know the city – after all, it’s the setting for pretty much every great romcom! Probably the most famous example is from the film When Harry met Sally – the iconic deli, Katz’s, where Meg Ryan did that scene is a real-life location which people from all over the world still flock to for a proper New York deli pastrami sandwich. Another example is the Flat Iron building on 5th Ave, where action movies like Spiderman, Godzilla, or Armageddon were shot. For fans of the show Sex and the City Greenwich Village will seem familiar, with its pretty federal styled town houses and their narrow steps, plenty of cafes and artsy places. New York is a place full of variety and the melting pot of many cultures and suburbs, just waiting to be discovered…

How to win a week in New York

The Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, 9/11 Memorial, the Museum of Modern Arts, Fifth Avenue, Times Square; the list is never-ending of all the sights you can see in New York. You probably need at least a week to see all the hotspots of the metropolis. It’s no longer only Manhattan that attracts the tourists, but also the hipster suburbs of Williamsburg and Brooklyn are gaining popularity. Here you find the best farmers’ markets in the city. If you are interested in the historical side of NY, I would advise you to tour through Harlem and maybe listen to the gospel choirs that you can hear on many corners. Variety is what counts: Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo, the Upper West Side and Broadway invite you to wander around and relaxed strolls up and down…

I’ve got the perfect competition for you: The winner and his or her +1 will fly to New York for one week. Lufthansa will whisk you across the pond to the Big Apple, where you’ll stay in a Hilton Hotel in Manhattan. Every morning you can look forward to a lovely breakfast before you hit the urban jungle. You’ll also have £700 spending money – the chance to do some serious shopping :)

Taking part in this competition is really easy: Enter your email address below and click on “Take Part and Win” and your name is in the hat. Good luck!

All of my New York Deals

City breaks are always popular, no matter what season. Getting cheap flights can therefore be difficult, since they are booked out quickly. Also, hotels in Manhattan tend to be either overpriced or simply not available, because everybody wants to stay in the best area, having all sights within walking distance. Booking a central hotel means you can stroll to Central Park, head to Time Square or go by Madison Square Garden, where you can book events like an exciting basketball game from the NY Knicks or a wonderful concert.

Throughout my New York Week, I’ll be showing you a new NYC deal every day. No matter what you’re looking for, cheap flights, flight and hotel combos, or a trip for a special occasion like New Year’s Eve or bank holidays… Take a look here at the deals and you stay up-to-date with the latest NYC travel bargains. If you’ve already been to New York in the summer, you should definitely make sure to visit New York during Autumn – or Fall, as they say across the pond – and admire the leaves in Central Park.
