Algarve Holiday Packages – find the best deals at Holidayguru.co.uk
One of the most popular destinations among holidaymakers – and with good reason! Around 300 days of sunshine each year, golden sands, turquoise waters and beautiful sandstone cliffs make this region a real treat for both body and soul. A holiday to the Algarve is worth it no matter what time of year, since the region records the most sunshine across the year in all of Europe! Even in winter daytime temperatures are pretty much always above 10°C, which is a massive improvement compared to home! You’ll be warm enough to enjoy the beaches even at this time, and you’ll even have the added bonus of having those beaches pretty much all to yourself.
Of course it goes without saying that the Algarve – which spans across the entire southern coast of Portugal – is absolutely perfect for family holidays during the summer period. The parents can laze around on the beach while the little ones build their sandcastles! If you’re travelling to the region as a couple and want to be a little adventurous, then don’t worry – you won’t be disappointed by what’s on offer. The entire region features as wealth of activities and things to do such as golfing, surfing, hiking, boat trips, quad biking, dolphin spotting… The list goes on!

Must-see places in the Algarve
The southern coast of Portugal is famous for its wonderful nature and its incredible diversity. But these aren’t the only features which define the Algarve – the region is also home to modern towns and small fishing villages which provide a varied insight into Portuguese life. It’s definitely one of the reasons why people rave on about this place and keep on coming back! And of course there’s absolutely no shortage of sun – the perfect conditions for a beach holiday! If the weather wasn’t enough of a reason to come here, you’ll be pleased to know that the region is blessed with beautiful bays and fantastic beaches.
Beaches to visit
Some beaches that I particularly recommend checking out: Praia da Marinha, which is amazing for snorkelling, and Paia do Tonel, perfect for both sunbathers and surfers alike. West of Faro you’ll find lots of smaller coves and beaches which are generally a lot quieter thanks to fewer tourists staying in this part of the region. But in comparison to other popular sun destinations, you’ll find that no matter what beach you go to in the Algarve, things aren’t really as crowded or as manic as you’d might expect.
Towns to visit
If you think you’ve done enough relaxing, then why not pay a visit to one of the many towns? First up is Faro, the capital of the region. This lovely whitewashed town is filled with gorgeous architecture and narrow cobbled streets that are asking to be explored. There are plenty of sights such as the Mauel Bivar Gardens by the harbour, buildings from Roman times and the largest nature reserve in the region.
Another city that’s worth checking out is Lagos, which has been influenced by several cultures across the years. You can wander through the Old Town and admire sights such as the former Governor’s Palace and the City Gate before sitting down to a traditional Portuguese dinner.
If you think the Algarve is a place for those who like things nice and quiet, you’re wrong! The town of Albufeira is filled to the brim with bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants. You’ll meet many similar-minded people looking to dance the night away. If you’re feeling a bit fragile the day after, just make your way down to the beach and chill in the sun!
Such a mix of things to do makes the Algarve a destination for everyone!
