Budapest holiday – find the best offers on the web here

The capital of Hungary is regarded as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. A holiday in Budapest guarantees a unique cultural landscape, historical buildings and impressive museums. Bridges, concert halls and theatres decorate the cityscape of the ninth-largest city in the European Union. These and many other highlights attract tourists from all over the world to the metropolis on the Danube. If you want to visit this European jewel, you will find the best offers for Budapest here. I regularly search the Internet for the best deals, to ensure that you can have a cheap trip to Budapest. You will find a large selection of different hotels. I also search for cheap flights to Budapest. Travel packages are provided with both of these, which you will also find at bargain prices.

If you have not had a serious look at Budapest, I’ll now give you some inspiration. After reading this, you’ll definitely want to go on holiday to Budapest!

The most important sights in Budapest

The city of Budapest emerged through the combination of Buda, Pest and Óbuda. The formerly independent cities are now popular districts in Hungary’s largest city. Buda is situated on the west side of the Danube. Pest is located on the east side of the Danube. Both city districts offer important sights and attractions for you.

Sights on the west side in Buda

The Buda side offers a lot of attractions for tourists from all over the world. This side of the Danube is generally more hilly than the east side. The reason for this is Gellért Hill, which is an important sight in Buda. This is where the Statue of Liberty and the Citadel are located. From the top, you get a wonderful view of the city. It makes for a wonderful panorama. We continue on to a fascinating UNESCO world heritage site: Castle Hill. At the top of the 180-metre-high hill, stands the former royal castle. Today, it is home to the National Library, the National Gallery, as well as a museum. There is to see a lot, so you should allow plenty of time.

A long walk through the Castle District is a must here. It stretches over a length of 1.5 kilometres and is about 500 meters wide. It is best to start the tour through the Castle District, from Vienna Gate. From here you can reach the oldest street in the district, Andrew-Hess Square, and also Trinity Square. It continues on to Matthias Church. This is the most famous church in the whole city and definitely worth a visit, as well as a few photos. Directly beside the church is the next attraction in Buda: the Fisherman’s Bastion. The sight of this immediately sends you back to the Middle Ages. Sandór Palace is also located in the impressive Castle District. The classical palace is the official residence of the President of Hungary. The buildings, squares and narrow streets of the Castle District make it a unique highlight of your holiday in Budapest.

The Buda side covers about one-third of Budapest. Whereas, the Pest side constitutes a whopping two-thirds of the city. There is plenty to see!

Sights and highlights on the east side in Pest

The east side of the Danube is flatter than the west side. Here you will find the large and picturesque district of Pest. This district also deals with the economic and political aspects of the Hungarian capital. Here, the sights string together to create a beautiful cityscape. In addition, there are numerous shopping opportunities, an exciting nightlife and much more. The most famous building in the city is the parliament building. The neo-gothic style architecture means this building should be at the top of your sightseeing list. It is also home to the famous St. Stephen’s crown and is one of the tallest buildings in the city. But St. Stephen’s Basilica provides some competition. It is the highest church in Budapest. If you within the big ring of Budapest, there is yet another highlight: the Great Market Hall. Here you can stroll past typical market stalls, shops and snack bars. You can easily spend a few hours on the three-floored market.

If you want a more intense shopping experience, head to Váci utca. From the Great Market Hall, you can quickly reach the most famous pedestrian shopping street in Budapest. It is located in the heart of the old town and has many shops and boutiques. If this is not enough, the Arena Plaza near the main train station is waiting for you. It is the largest shopping centre in the city. Further recreation awaits you in the green heart of the city: the City Park. The park extends over a large area and there is more to it than just grass and trees. If you enter the City Park at the south-west entrance, you will find Heroes’ Square. The spacious square with the iconic monument is the gateway to the recreation area. In the park, you will find Vajdahunyad Castle, as well as an artificial ice rink in the winter, where you can skate. If you’ve still got the energy, continue sightseeing! The State Opera House, the National Theater, numerous museums and the Andrássy út await you. There is so much to see when you go on holiday to Budapest. It is one of the most interesting cities in the world and a holiday here is a must for everyone. Don’t wait too long to visit!

A holiday in Budapest has a healing effect

The Hungarian capital is known as a bathing city. What many do not know: Budapest is Europe’s largest spa town. This can be attributed to the countless thermal springs and bathing houses. The natural springs release thermal water, which, because of its mineral content, has a healing power. The most beautiful and famous thermal baths are the Gellért baths. They are located in Buda, at the foot of Gellért Hill. Crafted in Art Nouveau style, it offers a variety of pools. Those who want to heal their skin, can do this here. Another famous bathing complex is the Széchenyi Baths. These thermal baths are located on the eastern side of the Danube in the City Park of Pest. With its numerous pools, it is considered the largest thermal bath in Europe. There are many other thermal baths in both districts of Budapest, which will also offer a relaxing break. These include, for example, the Király thermal baths, the Lukács thermal baths, the Rudas thermal baths and the Veli Bej baths. It was the Romans who discovered the hot springs and built the baths. Consequently, you are not only immersed in an oasis of relaxation, but also in the history of the city. Enjoy!

The Danube and its bridges

Whilst on holiday in Budapest, you will not miss the most important landmark of the city: the Danube. It winds its way through the city and offers wonderful views, particularly during a boat trip. Nine bridges cross the Danube and provide further sights. The oldest of the nine bridges is the Chain Bridge. It is also the most famous bridge in the city. It connects the centre of Pest with Castle Hill in Buda. Particularly in the evening, it is a joy to look at, as it illuminates beautiful lights. The second oldest bridge is Margaret Bridge. It is also worth a visit whilst you are on holiday in Budapest. It forms a star-shaped junction and leads to the southern tip of Margaret Island. No less remarkable is Liberty Bridge. It also impresses as an architectural masterpiece. The turul bird sits on the top of the bridge and guards it. Árpád Bridge, Elisabeth Bridge, Petőfi Bridge, Rákóczi Bridge, the southern and northern railway bridges, as well as Megyeri Bridge and Deák Ferenc Bridge, complete the bridges in Budapest.
