The city of Prague has an undoubted ability to ignite the soul. No matter what time of year you visit there are plenty of things that will have your heart beating faster. The core reason for this potency is without a doubt the magical Christmas Market of Prague, but there are plenty of romantic highlights in this amazing city to look forward to no matter what time of year you end up visiting.
To try and shed some light on one of Europe’s most romantic cities I have decided to compile a Top-5 List of insider tips on the most romantic things to do in Prague. With these handy tips, you can be sure that you can turn up the heat in your relationship ;)
If you’re not one to commonly venture to your local opera house, Prague offers you the perfect opportunity to set that right. I know the opera or going to a play isn’t the most typical thing to do while you’re on holidays but these shows are seriously worth checking out. Let your heart be captured by these beautiful performances. Taking in a show at one of Prague’s opera houses will definitely bring an element of wonder to any Prague city break. So why not lose yourself in a show before losing yourself in the arms of your loved one?
Two institutions in Prague that guarantee an amazing time are the National Theatre (Národní Divadlo) and the Estates Theatre (Stavovské Divadlo), the latter of which being one of oldest theatres in all of Europe.
2. Dinner with a view – panoramic restaurants in Prague
There are so many spots to enjoy a delicious meal whilst taking in the stunning panoramic views of Prague. A golden perspective on the Golden City is definitely something that will stick in your memory. Petrinske Terasy is my own personal favourite location. To be fair though it is hard to go wrong with the amazing selection of restaurants in this beautiful city. When the city lights up in the evening and you’re sharing a bite to eat with that special someone it’s hard to beat!
Another one of my top pics for dinner with a view is at the Hotel U Prince. Here you can enjoy a gorgeous dinner and take in the panoramic views of the city. The building itself oozes romance. It has been reconstructed from a building in the 12th century. Styled and furnished with antique furniture this unique hotel is well worth checking out for a romantic view.
3. The Beer Capital of Europe
The people of Prague – and indeed the country as a whole – really love their beer. It is embedded into the culture of this fabulous city. Did you happen to know that the Czech Republic is one of the highest consumers of beer per capita in the world? And that there are a whopping 25 active breweries within Prague alone! It’s fair to say that they definitely know a thing or two when it comes to making great beer!
If you’re looking for the best way to sample this beer I would recommend heading to U Fleků. This famous and historic venue has plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a meal. It’s also one of the best ways to sample some traditional Hungarian food.
Believe it or not, they have actually adopted beer as a very popular method of pampering. You will be able to live out for what many people are merely just a daydream. Here you will be able to find info on the Prague Beer Spa & Bath experience. Of course, there are a few beers to be had here too. Conventional usage of isn’t frowned upon! ;)
4. River cruises along the Vltava
Nothing can get the vibes of romance flowing quite like a good river cruise. The city of Prague is simply majestic in terms of its infrastructure. There are so many options available to visitors in which you can enjoy both a delicious meal and an unbeatable vantage point, all at the same time.
Floating underneath the stunning bridges in this beautiful city is part of the experience that you really can’t miss. There are plenty of tours that you can get so it really is hard to go wrong with them. However two providers that I can recommend in particular, especially if you’re looking for something bit more on the romantic side, are Jazz Boat and Wine Boat. Live music, fantastic food and gorgeous views of the city’s landmarks lit up a night… Seriously breathtaking stuff!
5. The Prague Christmas Markets
If you’re really looking forward to tapping into Prague’s magic, then Prague Christmas markets are undoubtedly the best way to do this. The market lights up not only the city but also the people who are lucky enough to experience it. Stalls selling one-of-a-kind and hand-crafted bits and pieces is essentially what the Christmas markets are all about. Ornaments, toys, metal-craft and the most delicious food imaginable, this experience really is a market lover’s dream.
The markets in Prague start on the 1st of December 2018 and finish up on the 6th of January 2019. The markets are traditionally held in the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. There are a few other smaller markets to check out too around Havel’s Market and St. George’s Basilica. Probably one of my favourite snacks to grab at a market like this is a lángos! It’s essentially dough that’s been deep fried and covered in toppings such as sour cream and cheese. For those of you with a sweet tooth, be sure to get stuck into some trdelník, or chimney cakes – these delightful pastry-based treats are dusted in sugar and cinnamon and are so incredibly more-ish. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
